THE PICS are mourning the loss of Honorary President, Brian ‘Soss’ Greenwood, who sadly passed away last week.
He was a driving force for the club both on and off the field for many years and also part of the well chronicled ‘Magnificent Seven’ who, back in the 1970s, laid the foundations for the club’s return to the village of Rushall and their move into Dales Lane, which is still home to the club today.
Born and bred in Brownhills, he began playing for Rushall Olympic at the start of the 1960s and it was a love-affair with the club that was to last for well over half-a-century.
He amassed 489 appearances for the club, helping them to become one of the powerhouses of the local football scene during the 1960s.
After his playing days came to an end, he moved onto the committee before becoming Chairman, a position that he would hold for many years as he worked tirelessly to promote the club and raise the funds needed to survive and thrive.
Unquestionably the cornerstone of Rushall Olympic FC for many years, he was one of life’s true gentlemen whose memory will live on with the Boardroom at Dales Lane being renamed as The Brian Greenwood Suite.
There will also be a minute’s silence ahead of The Pics’ opening game of the season against Banbury United on Saturday.
The funeral will be held at Streetly Crematorium, Little Hardwick Road WS9 0SG on Wednesday 22nd August at 11.15am, followed by the wake at his beloved Dales Lane.
The family have requested no flowers please, but donations can be made on the day to the brilliant oncology day unit at Good Hope Hospital.
