Match Report

RUSHALL Olympic came away from Whitby Town with a point having been the better side for long periods.
Positive start by The Pics with several early corners and a chance presented to Craig Bannister by Shane Bland in the home goal who redeemed himself by making the save.
After Mickael Partodikromo cut inside and dipped an effort over, George Bowerman made a positive break into the area only for his low strike to be pushed around the post by the ‘keeper.
There was a great chance for Rushall on 20 minutes when some neat play ended with Bowerman being played in but he placed his effort just wide from a good position.
The home side went close when Dale Hopson’s clever free-kick was turned inches wide in front of goal by Matt Tymon.
With 34 minutes on the clock, a shooting opportunity opened up for Bowerman who once again was thwarted by a smart save from the ‘keeper.
As half-time approached Jose Veiga did well to deny Michael Roberts but it was The Pics who had the better of the opening period.
Some neat football from Rushall ended with Aaron Forde brought down on the edge of the area and Bannister stepped up to curl the free-kick just the wrong side of the post.
There was another free-kick in a good position moments later when Isaac Cooper threaded through Bowerman who was brought down. Bannister’s effort lacked the pace to trouble the ‘keeper.
After Forde had missed a great chance from Bowerman’s pull-back, the home side went down the other end and took the lead against the run of play on 66 minutes as Dale Hopson bundled home from close range.
Rushall almost hit back straight away as Gurjit Singh seized upon some defensive hesitation but the ‘keeper was able to grab the loose ball. However, the equaliser came on 71 minutes when Bannister found space inside the area to plant a header home.
A curling effort for Steven Snaith rattled the woodwork as the home side looked for a second goal and they almost got it in the final minute when a close-range header from Roberts was superbly saved by Veiga as honours ended even.
