EMIRATES FA CUP FIRST ROUND QUALIFYING REPLAY
RUSHALL OLYMPIC 0 SUTTON COLDFIELD TOWN 1

A first half goal from former Rushall Olympic player LEE SMITH proved the difference at Dales Lane as Sutton Coldfield Town marched into the next round and a home tie with National League North, Alfreton Town.

The Pics rallied in the final stages of the game but couldn`t force an equaliser.

It was the visitors who made an enterprising start to the game forcing several corners in the opening quarter and the Pics first attempt at goal came on sixteen minutes when Ashley Sammons` shot was easily saved by Lewis Gwilliams.

There was a half chance for the visitors when an attempted pass from Brian Smikle was cut out and from Jonathon Letford`s cross came in the Royals were awarded a penalty in the thirty fourth minute which was easily converted by former Rushall player LEE SMITH who sent Joe Slinn the wrong way.

With Rushall trying to get back into the game they put together a good move down the right but Tyler Lyttle`s cross was cut-out by Gwilliams and then good defensive play by Lyttle, at the other end, prevented a good opportunity for Sutton.

The main threat for the home side was coming down the right hand side with Lyttle providing the danger and another low cross just evaded the home forwards and then further good play from the full back set up Sammons who saw his shot saved by the Royals `keeper`.

The home side were now on top and Justin Richards glanced a Sammons corner passed the far post but as play swung to the other end Smith had a great chance to double his side`s lead but headed wide from inside the six yard box.

Rushall dominated the final stages of the game and despite efforts from Sammons, Richards and Ahenkorah all going close they couldn`t find that decisive goal to take the game into extra time and it was Sutton Coldfield Town who progressed into the next round.
