Staffordshire Football Association - Challenge Cup – Round One

Rushall Olympic U21 6-1 Lichfield City U21

The two teams had met 7 days previously, in a league game, with Rushall running out 4-3 winners. The home side proved that they had not lost their goal-scoring touch by notching four more goals, this time before half-time, bringing their total to 31 in their last six games (not including 8 more in a penalty shoot-out!).

Soms Sibanda opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a close-range header and then doubled his tally, eight minutes later, from the penalty-spot after Keiron Berry was brought down.

Keiron Berry then scored a goal of his own in the 40th minute before Soms Sibanda completed his hat-trick, a minute before the interval.

As last week, Lichfield tried to battle back, but the Pics were not so vulnerable this time. Junior Johnson grabbed his first goal for the club, following good work from Soms Sibanda/

Pat Wyatt, who had scored for Lichfield in the 3rd minute of stoppage time in the previous game, showed that he was the player for late goals when he scored a consolation goal in the 89th minute.

This prompted a quick response from Rushall and Jack Dunn grabbed a late goal of his own in the second minute of stoppage time.
