The Pics

Rushall Olympic made it three pre-season wins in a row with a 1-0 victory against a dogged Walsall Wood side at Dales Lane this evening.

The opening exchanges were a collection of long range efforts and half chances, with neither side able to force a keeper into a meaningful save.

The deadlock was broken in the 24th minute, after some good hold up play in the area by Lewis Archer. The front man kept defenders at bay before laying off for Ashley Sammons, who struck a clean shot into the bottom corner.

Wood came close to an equaliser just before half time, when their front man found himself in acres of space down the right hand side. He closed in on goal and got a shot away, but Pics keeper Joe Slinn did just enough to deflect it onto the post and away from danger.

There was a chance for both sides at the start of the second half. The first fell to Archer after some electric pace from Ben Lund down the right. Lund squared for Archer, whose shot was well saved by the visiting keeper.

Wood went straight down the other end and should have equalised, but Joe Slinn did brilliantly to deny the advancing striker when he was through on goal.

Rushall went close again on 63 minutes, when Archer played Gaz Singh in down the right. The sub cut inside before seeing his low shot well saved at the far post.

New Pics man Tobias Hailes-Docherty went close to doubling the lead on 77 minutes, when he created some space for himself down the right. He left his marker behind before shooting low towards the far post, missing by a matter of inches.
