Match Report

Five first half goals helped a rampant Rushall Olympic to a 6-2 victory in their Walsall Senior Cup Semi Final against Sutton Coldfield at Cole’s Lane.

The Pics’ opener came on 14 minutes after former Rushall keeper Jono Brown fouled Richard Brodie inside the box to concede a penalty. Brodie took the spot kick himself, sending Brown the wrong way to put the visitors one up.

The lead was doubled on 21 minutes. It was Brodie again with the goal, this time dinking a delicate lob over Brown following a Josh Webb long ball.

The third goal, which took the wind out of Sutton’s sails, was scored by Josh Hawker when a rebounded shot fell to his feet 15 yards out. The former Highgate man smashed past Brown into the bottom corner.

The result was put beyond any doubt when the on fire Danny Waldron continued his scoring run in the 34th minute. Waldron waltzed through the Royals defence down the right before slotting home at the near post to make it 4-0.

The visitors capped off a stellar first half performance with a rather more direct goal. After Sam Whittall saw his header blocked on the line, Joe Hull was on hand right under the crossbar to smash into the roof of the net to take Rushall halfway to double figures.

The home side finally got a reply on 53 minutes, with Danny O’Callaghan shooting 20 yards out. His effort looped up off Sam Whittall’s foot to find the back of the net.

Rushall’s sixth came from U21s star Lewis Archer, who times his run perfectly to get on the end of a left sided cross to put another past Brown.

Harvey Howell got another consolation for Sutton in the 84th minute, when he rose highest nod home a header after a cross in from Josh Green down the right.
