Match Report

THE PICS chalked up a hard-earned 3-2 victory at Welsh Premier League outfit, Newtown AFC. 

It was the home side who started the game by seeing more of the early ball, although chances were few and far between.
A low strike from Reed had the sting taken out of it by a deflection with five minutes on the clock.
As The Pics started to get into our stride, a neat move ended with Luke Bottomer brought down and he delivered the resulting free-kick into the danger zone where the ‘keeper was able to claim under pressure.
A neat move from Rushall saw an inviting ball headed out for a corner by the home side and the resulting flag-kick found its way across to Joe Hull who fired home with a low strike to make it 1-0 on 18 minutes.
There was an opportunity open up for Reed as he latched on to a loose back-pass but he was well off target with his effort.
With 25 minutes on the clock, Bottomer did well to pick out one of our trialists and his strike was clawed behind by the ‘keeper.
Our lead was doubled on 36 minutes when a sharp break was finished off by one of our trialists.
The early action of the second half saw a cross from the home left find Boundford whose deft touch forced a save from Dan Crane.
Newtown were able to reduce the arrears on 57 minutes when Reed did well out wide to feed Boundford who applied the finish.
We managed to hit back almost straight away when a sweet strike from one of the trialists made it 3-1.
It became 3-2 on 63 minutes when a deep cross from Mitchell found the head of Boundford at the far post and he managed to guide the ball home.
Three of The Pics’ substitutes combined well to launch a raid which ended with one of the trialists seeing his effort blocked by the ‘keeper.
It was to be the last real effort of note as The Pics held on to claim a hard-earned 3-2 victory.
