Match Report

A perfect night for football at Dales Lane looked promising for a good game, in the Staffordshire Cup quarter final stage.

After last weeks disappointment, Rushall were determined to put defeat behind them and regain some confidence.

After taking a while to identify the away sides threat, Rushall found themselves behind after a constant danger from Haughmond's winger. Their lead was deserved, although could and should have been dealt with by the home defence.

This seemed to kick-start the quarter final, Rushall continued to work hard and probe. A lovely passage of play lead to a fine composed equaliser from Ben Grice. Minutes later, almost a carbon copy of the first, Jack May smashed home to give the home side the advantage.

Against the run of play, Haughmond drew level after a horrible bobbled clearance, that deflected into the home net for the second leveller of the game.

The Pics dealt with frustration in a very positive manner. The whole team started to play more sensible football, due to the work rate off the ball. Ryan Taylor added a third, followed by Ben Grice with an impressive first half brace, giving Rushall a comfortable 4-2 HT lead.

At half team, the squad listened and put discussed improvements into practice during the second half.

It was now all Rushall, who constantly created opportunities to score. A lot of chances went begging but it was very pleasing to see further goals, Ryan Taylor and Ben Grice both completing superb hat-tricks. Just as pleasing however, was a second half clean sheet.

A really enjoyable game saw The Pics progress into the Semi Finals of the Staffordshire Cup. Next up we host Tipton Town in the League on Monday night.
