Sporting Khalsa 2 Youth Team 4.
The Pics travelled the short distance to Sporting Khalsa, with a couple of players missing, including the absence of Jack Squire on first-team duty.
On arrival it was noted and should be applauded, what a lovely job Khalsa have obviously made on their pitch during the summer.
This was a great plus for us as we could get it down and play the football we like to.
Experimenting and challenging the players, starting with a back 3 brought its nervy moments but the lads coped and adapted well, especially going forward, Luke Bawn worked hard for his opportunity and struck the opener under the keeper, to give his side a half time lead.
Still wanting to continue to work at a new formation, the Pics started to play wiser football and started to really threaten going forward. Ryan Brookes hit the bar and with work to do, Ben Grice reacted well and won the race to fire home the rebound from 12 yards.
Ollie Mardenborough returned to the field after a month long injury and picked up where he had left off, working hard and grabbed a headed third goal for the Pics.
With the game seemingly over and maybe switching off a little, substitute keeper Joe Williams was unfortunate to see the ball in the back of his net, following a goalmouth scramble.
To be fair, Rushall upped the tempo once more and broke dangerously, Ben Grice returning the favour for Ryan Brookes with a delicious cross, Ryan finished brilliantly with a volleyed lob.
Khalsa went for broke, won a free kick 25 yards out and unfortunately on a greasy surface caught everyone out to make the final score 4-2.
Rushall now find themselves top of the table. The work really starts now if we want to keep that status.
