BEDWORTH UNITED 3 RUSHALL OLYMPIC 3 - AET - Bedworth win 4-3 on penalties
THE PICS' youth team travelled to Bedworth for the latest round of the FA Youth Cup.
We were pretty quick out of the blocks and looked hungry for a result. In the sixth minute, after a very good delivery, Ben Grice headed home to give Rushall a deserved lead.
The home side seemed shell-shocked and started to play rushed long ball, which benefitted Rushall and saw Tom Garratt anticipate well, to slot home and give the away side a 2-0 lead at the break.
Bedworth simply had to go for it and to be fair played better in the second period. They took risks and pushed forward, eventually seeing a looping header land in Rushall's net, giving them a lifeline.
To make things more difficult to deal with, Rushall went down to ten men, when a needless retaliation led to a straight red and an uphill struggle.
As the 3G pitch started to take its toll, Rushall were looking very sorry for themselves, carrying two players with bad injuries. The inevitable was to come and Bedworth capitalised five minutes from time.
The away side were very lucky to see extra-time if it wasn't for a couple of great saves from 'keeper, Shaun Horan.
Although very tough to rally against fatigue and injury, the lads pulled together and typified their team spirit. A tremendous effort followed in getting to the turnaround unscathed.
The home side were now throwing the kitchen sink at us and managed to put themselves ahead with ten minutes left on the clock.
By this time as it was now 10.15pm, Bedworth were now feeling the effects of the 3G and were also cramping up. Rushall responded very well and Tom Garratt grabbed his second of the night to take the tie to penalty kicks.
Some great scenes of celebration that was warranted and deserved but unfortunately short-lived.
Although scoring our first three spot-kicks and saving their fourth, we very unfortunately fell out of this prestigious competition. Although extremely disappointed a lot of lessons and experience was gained from the game.
