THE PICS welcomed Gloucester City for the first match of the JPL season on a excellent but very wet surface.
Both teams contributed to an all-action affair. Rushall took the game to our visitors early on, pressing and unsettling Gloucester, who were forced to play on the counter-attack.
We opened the scoring 15 minutes in when Tom Garrat won possession and fired across the 'keeper into the bottom corner to make 1-0.
It was not long until the visitors equalised when pressure on the hosts created an opportunity to drop for Tim Rankinto and he slotted home from close range to level matters.
Rushall 'keeper, Jamie Pardington, was in fine form making several saves to keep the game even.
We were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box with the City 'keeper producing an excellent save only to see the rebound put away by debutant Josh MacGregor to make it 2-1 to The Pics.
Once again the visitors came back when a through-ball to Dan Beasley saw him cooly round the 'keeper to make it 2-2.
Within five minutes of the equaliser, Gloucester found themselves in front when Beasley found Dominik Kent who finished well to make it 3-2 and that's how it stayed going into the half-time interval .
The second half saw the visitors make it four when countering a Rushall raid for Ranken to get his second of the day.
We refused to let our heads drop and pressed City each time they won possession but found the visiting 'keeper in excellent form.
Gloucester sealed the game in the final minutes with a superb finish from Josh Watts to give them a 5-2 win.
It was an excellent, competitive game and well done to both teams.
