THE PICS Under-15s entertained West Hagley in their first home game of the season.
The first quarter saw Hagley looking very sharp and passing the ball around well. Their first shot came from a defensive mix-up as the ball flew just over the bar.
Rushall soon settled and looked comfortable as we put the pressure on. There were no real chances of note in this quarter as both 'keepers never looked in danger.
The second quarter saw Hagley come out of the blocks quickly and Rushall's 'keeper, Brad Price, was forced into a great save but the quarter ended with the scoreline still goalless between two evenly-matched sides.
There was good, flowing football from both sides. Rushall held a well-organised back-line which caught Hagley offside on numerous occasions.
There was no much to report in the third quarter, but there were some great individual efforts from both sides; Jamie Gardner playing well for Hagley along with Alex Howell for Rushall with his relentless work-rate. Great defensive quality for both sides prevented any clear-cut chances
The final quarter saw Rushall pull out all of the stops. Carter Lycett hit the bar for Rushall but Alex Howell was first to respond to the rebound to head home and give The Pics a hard-fought lead.
Carter again hit the post from a great through-ball by Joel Chapman. Another great passage of play for Rushall found George Overton in space and a quality finish gave us a 2-0 lead.
There was some great quality play in this encounter but with few clear-cut chances such was the organisation and discipline of both sides.
We wish Hagley all the best in their campaign...
