RUSHALL Olympic’s final home game of the season ended in a 2-0 defeat at the hands of local rivals, Stourbridge, who cemented their place in the play-offs.
There was a good tempo to the opening exchanges with the first chance falling to Rushall after good work from George Bowerman saw him link up with Gurjit Singh whose strike was saved by Matt Gould.
The visitors took the lead in controversial circumstances when Brad Birch was brought down inside the area by Sam Whittall for a penalty but there appeared to be a handball by the Stourbridge player in the build-up.
Luke Benbow stepped up and stayed cool to find the net from the spot to give his side a 29th minute lead.
As half-time approached some positive play from Mickael Partodikromo saw him link up well with Bowerman before dragging a low effort wide.
Stourbridge managed to double their advantage early in the second period when Ethan Jones found space in front of goal to fire beyond Veiga.
There was a chance for Benbow soon afterwards but his low drive was well watched by Veiga.
A free-kick from Partodikromo found its way over to the far post where Joe Hull saw his strike blocked by the alert Matt Gould in the visitors’ goal before a neat passage of play by Rushall ended with Bowerman firing over.
At the other end, Veiga had to be alert to deny Jones and then Jordan Archer before getting down well to keep out a curling low free-kick from the lively Benbow.
