RUSHALL Olympic played out a 1-1 draw with Marine in a game that was delayed by the late arrival of the visitors.
It was a cagey opening with neither side able to take the initiative until the visitors grabbed the lead out of the blue on 18 minutes when Danny Mitchley saw his effort fly beyond the reach of Jose Veiga.
As Rushall looked to make an instant response, a neat passage of play ended with Luke Bottomer delivering an inviting cross which Brian Smikle headed just wide.
The visitors were asking most of the questions as the half went on and there was a big let-off for The Pics on 35 minutes when a poor clearance fall at the feet of Mensah but his control let him down at the crucial moment.
The second period started with chances at a premium. After Aaron Forde almost played in Marcus Jackson, a break by the visitors ended with Kenny Strickland finding Mitchley who was just off target.
There was a good chance for Rushall on 68 minutes when a teasing cross from the left was met by the head of Sam Whittall who was denied by the ‘keeper.
The equaliser came with 12 minutes to go when a free-kick from Bottomer found the head of Joe Hull who made no mistake to plant his effort beyond Paul Phillips.
Boosted by the goal, Bottomer’s cushioned header found the lively Marcus Jackson whose first-time strike whistled just past the post. Then a long ball forward picked out the head of Whittall but the ‘keeper did well with a diving save as The Pics ended strongly but couldn’t find a winner.
