RUSHALL Olympic put in a battling display to secure a hard-earned three points against Buxton with a 1-0 win.
The Pics took an early lead when George Bowerman was alive to a kind bounce inside the area to lift the ball over the ‘keeper and open his scoring account for the club in the third minute.
It was a lively start by the home side and Joe Hull went close to doubling the lead as he headed a corner just wide.
As Buxton started to get into the game, Joe McGee got himself into a good position inside the area only for his effort from a tight angle to be bravely blocked by Sam Whittall.
Then a free-kick from Liam Hardy from a promising position was on target but well watched by Jose Veiga.
Another free-kick, this time from a wide position, was whipped in dangerously by Jamie Green as Whittall won the header to clear in front of Niall Doran.
Right at the end of the opening period, Isaac Cooper delivered an inviting low ball that found Bannister at the far post only for his effort to be blocked.
The early action of the second period saw Mickael Partodikromo rattle the woodwork with a strike from distance.
It was developing into something of a frantic affair but goalscoring chances were at a premium at either end.
Bannister went close in front of goal for The Pics before McGee headed over from a corner at the other end.
Rushall survived a spell of pressure towards the end to see the game out and secure a good three points.
