THE PICS battled out a Boxing Day goalless at Stourbridge in front of a large crowd.
There was plenty of cut-and-thrust in the opening exchanges as The Pics asked a number of questions of the home defence.
The first opening came on ten minutes when Alex Reid broke through only to drag his effort wide of the target. Reid then went down under the challenge of Matt Gould inside the area in the next attack, but the referee waved away any penalty appeals.
As the home side looked to get into their stride, Chris Lait pulled the ball across goal but it was deflected into the side-netting after Matt Dodd had fired well over.
There was a chance for former Pic, Jack Duggan, from a corner, but he was off target.
A long throw-in from Isaac Cooper caused problems for Stourbridge as Mo Diop linked up well with Aaron Forde whose low effort was blocked.
It was end-to-end stuff as a ball into the danger zone from Lait was scrambled clear before Reid fashioned another opening at the other end only to drag wide once more.
Some strong play from Tom Tonks saw him make good progress before firing just wide as half-time approached.
After Joe Hull was booked for a miss-timed challenge, a powerful drive from distance by Darryl Westlake went inches wide.
There was some brave defending by Rushall to keep the home side at bay right at the end of the opening period as it remained goalless going into the break.
A brave block from Lee Smith denied Kayelden Brown as the resulting corner was scrambled clear in the opening exchanges of the second period.
On the hour, Karl Hawley was red-carded for an altercation with Tonks who avoided punishment for his part.
It was a resilient display from The Pics as Veiga did well to deny Brown from close range following Westlake’s inviting low ball into the area and then Dodd fired over under pressure.
The next attack saw Tonks dip an effort over as Rushall defended for our lives to keep the home side at bay as they looked to make their extra man advantage count but it finished with honours even.
