RUSHALL Olympic continued their march at the top of the table as they came home from struggling Corby Town with a commanding 4-1 victory.
The Pics started the game with real purpose and deservedly took the lead on six minutes when Alex Reid broke the offside trap before rounding the ‘keeper and slotting home.
Shortly afterwards, Karl Hawley twisted and turned on the edge of the area before getting in a strike that flew just wide of the target.
Rushall were pressing the home side well in the opening exchanges and forcing them into mistakes, but they did create a chance on 18 minutes when the ball was pumped into the danger zone and Jose Veiga had to be alert to claim ahead of Jordan Smith.
With 28 minutes on the clock, a tangle of legs saw Alex Reid go down under the challenge of Phil Trainer to win a penalty which Hawley stepped up to slot home and bag his first goal for the club to make it 2-0.
The home side were able to reduce the arrears right on the stroke of half-time when Ben Milnes danced his way through inside the area before guiding the ball beyond the reach of Veiga.
A great through-ball from Mickael Partodikromo set Jazz Luckie racing away until he was brought down outside the area by the ‘keeper who was duly booked. The resulting free-kick cannoned into the defensive wall.
The third goal arrived on 55 minutes when a free-kick was delivered high into the area where Joe Hull seized upon some hesitation in the home defence to guide the ball home from close range to make it 3-1.
There was a smart save from Veiga to deny Smith, whilst at the other end, a corner, which was won following a marauding run from Stan Mugisha, was met with a deft header from Hawley that landed inches over.
A spell of pressure from The Pics paid off when Mugisha went through on goal before rounding the advancing ‘keeper and rolling the ball home.
The closing stages saw Reid go close to adding to the lead for Rushall who were worthy winners.
