RUSHALL Olympic were made to work hard for their 1-0 victory over bottom of the table, Skelmersdale United.
Despite starting the game brightly, The Pics had a couple of early scares when Benito Lowe headed over from a good position after he found space inside the area and then Isaac Cooper had to scramble off the line from Chris Almond.
There were two chances in quick succession for Jak Jeys at the other end as firstly his low strike from a corner was blocked by the ‘keepers’ legs and then he drilled wide after Mo Diop launched a raid.
Although Rushall enjoyed the majority of possession during the opening period, they were unable to make it count as the opening period ended goalless.
After finding our visitors in stubborn mood, The Pics finally made the breakthrough on 70 minutes when some good work by Luke Bottomer saw him thread Jazz Luckie through and he took the ball in his stride before firing home.
As the clock ticked down towards the end, a Rushall counter-attack saw Bottomer use his pace before linking up with Stan Mugisha whose low effort was blocked by Martin Fearon.
There was a flash-point in stoppage time which ended with Luckie red-carded for pushing an opponent as Skelmersdale went close to levelling courtesy of Kenny Strickland’s swerving strike that was beaten away by Veiga.
In the end, The Pics held out to secure the points.
