RUSHALL Olympic came away from Ilkeston with a hard-earned 2-0 win on a chilly night.
It was The Pics who asked a few early questions of the home side with Alex Reid finding space out wide on a couple of occasions without seriously testing the home ‘keeper.
At the other end, two free-kicks from Rory Coleman, both in promising positions, were gathered by Jose Veiga, whilst Danny Gordon was wayward with a strike from distance.
There was an opening for Rushall on 25 minutes when Reid did well once more and as the ball fell out to Mo Diop on the edge of the area, his strike clipped the top of the crossbar.
The home side went close towards the end of the opening period when a corner found the head of Anton Brown only for Veiga to make the save.
There was a great chance for Ilkeston within seconds of the restart when Luis Rose was played through but he lifted the ball over with only the ‘keeper to beat.
Some neat play by The Pics saw Luke Bottomer break with pace before feeding Jak Jeys whose effort was saved without too many problems by Ross Durrant.
Rushall took the lead on 77 minutes when a corner was headed back across goal by Henry Eze for Diop to force home from close range.
In stoppage time, The Pics made it 2-0 when the home side forced a corner and as the ‘keeper came up, the ball was cleared to Isaac Cooper who found the net from inside his own half.
