RUSHALL Olympic let a two-goal lead slip in the closing stages to draw 2-2 with Warrington Town at Dales Lane.
The Pics took the lead somewhat out of the blue in the ninth minute when a free-kick wasn’t properly cleared and Alex Reid was on hand to guide home.
There was very little flow to the game in the opening half-an-hour. Jose Veiga was alert to gather at the feet of Ciaran Kilheeney before an inviting cross from Henry Eze at the other end found Reid whose powerful strike was well saved.
With half-time approaching, the visitors upped the pressure in search of a leveller and Rushall had Aris Christophorou to thank for two tremendous goal-line clearances in quick succession.
On 43 minutes a poor clearance out of defence by the visitors saw the ball fall to Jordan Fitzpatrick who rifled home with a low strike to make it 2-0.
The visitors went close to pulling a goal back at the start of the second half as the ball somehow stayed out.
It was Warrington asking most of the questions as the game went on with Tom Peers going close to reducing the deficit on a couple of occasions.
There was a great chance for Stan Mugisha after he was played through by Sam Whittall but he fired into the side-netting.
The visitors pulled a goal back with ten minutes to go when a goalmouth melee ended with Conor Speed poking home from close range.
After Mugisha missed following a pacy counter-attack, the visitors levelled with two minutes to go when Michael Grogan fired into the roof of the net.
There was still time for The Pics to go close when Reid fired wide from a great position after good work from Fitzpatrick in the build-up but it ended honours even in a 2-2 draw.
