RUSHALL Olympic battled out a good 2-0 victory at a soggy Stafford Rangers.
The Pics made a bright start to the game despite the weather, with Mo Diop making his presence felt early on and Luke Bottomer having an effort from just outside the area that was saved.
The opening goal arrived on seven minutes when another strike from Bottomer was blocked by Mitchell Tolley and from the resulting corner, it was Diop who was able to guide the ball home.
After a strike from Kyle Perry was well gathered by Jose Veiga, there was a chance for Diop at the other end, but his effort was tame.
With ten minutes to go until the break, Veiga did well to save a header from George Bowerman right on the line as the home side started to build up a head of steam.
Having defended resolutely, The Pics broke to double our advantage a minute from half-time as Alex Reid capitalised on some defensive hesitation to fire home.
The home side started the second half the brighter of the two teams with Rushall continuing to defend well to thwart our hosts.
A cross from Kris Taylor found the head of Perry but Veiga was able to block his initial effort and as the ball stayed alive, Perry’s shot on the turn was deflected just over.
The wet conditions were making life difficult for both teams as the game went on but Rushall saw it through and were good value for our 2-0 win.
