RUSHALL Olympic returned to winning ways with a hard-earned and deserved 2-1 victory at Ashton United.
It was the home side who took the lead on the quarter-mark with the first effort on goal from either side as Jose Veiga blocked the initial strike from Lee Gaskell, but despite his best efforts, he was unable to keep out the follow-up from Chris Baguely.
As The Pics started to get into their stride, the equaliser duly arrived on 26 minutes when Joel Kettle found the net with a sweet strike from distance.
It wasn’t long before Rushall had the chance to go in front when new-boy, Jazz Luckie, was brought down inside the area for a penalty. Zak Martin stepped up only to see his effort from the spot well saved by the ‘keeper.
The Pics went in front ten minutes from the break when Alex Reid broke into the area and fired in a low strike from the left that saw the ball cross the line despite desperate attempts to clear from a home defender.
Right at the end of the opening period, a purposeful break by Rushall saw Reid and Luckie combine for the latter to be denied by Terry Smith in the home goal.
Two efforts in quick succession from Kettle were cleared off the line as Rushall started the second half brightly, whilst at the other end, Gaskell and Ryan Crowther were both denied by Veiga.
The Pics were working hard for each other to protect their lead as the home side searched for a leveller and it ended in a return to winning ways for John Allen’s side.
