RUSHALL Olympic were made to work hard to secure victory in a cut-and-thrust local derby against Halesowen Town at a wet Dales Lane.
It was a positive start from the home side with Joel Kettle going close early on as he got on the end of a high, hanging cross from Bilal Yafai.
There was a great reaction save from Jose Veiga in the Rushall goal on the quarter-hour mark when a powerful free-kick from Lee Chilton was deflected goalwards.
The opening goal arrived on 34 minutes just as the heavens started to open when a great cross from Yafai on the left-hand side found Aaron Forde who made no mistake to guide the ball home.
As The Pics started to up the pressure in the wake of the goal, Alex Reid and then Luke Bottomer both went close with efforts that were deflected just wide.
The visitors went close to levelling matters just past the hour when the home defence switched off and Lee Chilton was presented with a good chance which he dragged wide then Dumitru Chiriac also went close in the next raid as his effort was cleared off the line.
After weathering the storm, Rushall could have sealed the game on 83 minutes when a neat passing move opened up the visitors’ defence for Reid who fired over from a good position.
The closing stages saw Richard Sho-Silva’s towering header well held by Veiga as The Pics held on to claim all three points.
