RUSHALL Olympic secured their first home win of the season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Grantham Town.
There was a cagey opening to proceedings with neither side able to stamp their authority on the game.
A neat move by The Pics on 19 minutes saw Mo Diop link up with Aris Christophorou who fed Luke Bottomer and his shot on the turn was deflected inches wide.
Another incisive passing move from Rushall ended with Alex Reid seeing his effort cannon off the crossbar shortly afterwards and the same player went close again with a powerful drive on the half-hour mark.
At the other end, Jose Veiga was acrobatic to deny Ben Saunders before the deadlock was broken five minutes before the break when Zak Martin fired home a beauty to give Jake Turner in the visitors’ goal no chance.
On the stroke of half-time there was a let-off for Grantham as they scrambled an effort off the line.
The Pics started the second period with purpose and Reid went close before he rounded off another neat move with Rushall’s second goal on 58 minutes.
It was soon 3-0 when Martin fired home his second of the evening but Grantham were able to reduce the arrears through Saunders.
Rushall remained in control for the remainder of the game to secure a deserved three points.
