Match Report

THE PICS went out of the Walsall Senior Cup with a 3-0 defeat at Stafford Rangers.
On a chilly night at Marston Road, the action started with former Pic, Kris Taylor, firing over.
There was a stoppage after the home ‘keeper picked up a knock but he was able to continue as Josh Gordon saw his strike fly wide of the target.
Genuine goalscoring opportunities were few and far between in the opening exchanges, but there was a good tempo to the game.
After The Pics scrambled clear in front of goal, Mickael Partodikromo tried his luck at the other end with a stinging drive that was saved by the ‘keeper.
The next action saw Mo Diop presented with a good chance but his close range effort was blocked.
With 40 minutes on the clock, the home side were awarded a penalty when Arnold was adjudged to have fouled Griffiths. It seemed harsh and Gordon stepped up and blazed over.
However, within two minutes the home side were able to take the lead as Tim Sanders chipped home.
Once again The Pics were guilty of conceding two goals in as many minutes when Gordon went through one-on-one with Arnold and he stayed calm to slot the ball home.
It left us with a mountain to climb despite looking the better side for long periods during the first half.
The second period started with a cross-come-shot from George Cater cleared off the line.
At the other end, some good link-up play between Luke Bottomer and Mo Diop ended with the latter getting in a powerful strike that was well saved.
Some more neat approach play shortly afterwards saw the ball pulled back into the path of Diop who was inches wide as we pushed for a way back into the game.
There was some good play from Rushall as the second half went on and an inviting corner from Isaac Cooper was met by the head of Joe Hull who was just off target.
Despite our pressure, the home side grabbed the all-important third goal with just over ten minutes left on the clock as Taylor fired home beyond the reach of Arnold.
It meant that our interest in the Walsall Senior Cup ended for this season.
