RUSHALL Olympic pushed the Champions-elect, Blyth Spartans, all the way but succumbed to a single-goal defeat at Dales Lane.
It was a purposeful start by the leaders and they deservedly took the lead on seven minutes as Daniel Maguire skipped his way through before slotting home.
The Pics’ first effort on goal came from Jazz Luckie but his strike lacked the necessary power to trouble the ‘keeper too much.
At the other end Veiga was being kept busy with efforts from Robbie Dale and Luke Armstrong before he produced a smart save to deny the lively Maguire after a corner found its way into his path inside the area.
The second period began with a free-kick on the edge of the area which dipped just over from Mickael Partodikromo.
It was a hard-fought encounter with both sides playing their part. Veiga did well to watch a low drive from Armstrong whilst there were loud appeals for a penalty at the other end as Danico Johnson was brought down but the referee waved away the protests.
As Rushall pressed in search of a leveller, Brian Smikle fired well over before an inviting cross from Aaron Forde at the end of a neat move was scrambled clear.
In the end, the visitors made the long journey home with all three points but they certainly knew that they had been in a game.
